IKEA for a bargain brunch, Gothenberg Harbour Islands by ferry
Kathie confronted me first thing in the morning. "we seem to have lost the IKEA Family Card"
It was doubly annoying for her because this gives us special discounts at the IKEA restaurant..and I simon had used it last..
We had agreed that it might be fun to have breakfast at IKEA while here and take advantage of their special offer..about 60 skk each for an all you can eat breakfast for 6 euro ..about 5 pound..or 10 NZD, and we hadnt had a breakfast out for months not since Hackney with Chantell and Simon David.
Yes they came from far and wide we were a little late and only had 10 minutes to serve ourselves .. but that was fine..it was nice quality at a very fine price..
I can see many people wont eat anything else today🙂
The kind people at IKEA trusted us that we had lost our card and gave us the family card price🙂 They had no way to get a replacement to us because our address is UK.
Off for the islands set Tomtom for Bjorko about 25 mins and we are at the ferry terminal..We're in the Que and Kathie hops out to the Kiosk to buy a ticket..well the ferry arrives while she is away.. so I have to think quickly.. Its not easy for me . I managed to manouver to the side of the que and let those cars behind me onto the ferry.. Kathie saw me and comes running back she thought we might miss the ferry.. but no , the good news was the ferry is free. It seems the Swedish government considers these Island important and provides the ferry as a Road..
I see the last car driving onto the ferry so I nip in behind him..just in time the gates close behind us and we are off.. That's great I thought
a free ferry ride and a nice day,what could be better. We've never had a free ferry ride ever.
Come time to disembark, turn on the ignition and Tomtom informs me to turn around when possible.. Yes we got in the Que for the wrong ferry ..ended up on the wrong Island, Hono..for Free ..so thats not so bad, lets make the most of it and we explored the island ..about 10 km total length of roads and bridges joining the three islands
So on the map Hono is where we found ourselves we had a 3 hour tour of the islands Ockero and Halso then back to the ferry and mainland in pursuit of Bjorko.
The islands are solid rock the houses are beautiful character in wood
On the right of the map is a place Furulund with a blue dot below it .. that's where we are staying.
Hows this for a patriotic swede.. a volvo same colour as his house. many houses are framed in this colour
There are quite a few reasonable size fishing vessels in for repair
They send the apprentice out to get teh smoko and local supplies
Great invention and cheap as chips to run with no WOF
Kathie's eye for detail at work here ..such a rocky place created in the last Ice age apparently..I don't remember.
Our Campsite Owner had recommend we visit the lovely restaurant at Bjorko.
Our restaurant policy is a bit flexible but generally if we are not hungry we will have a cold drink or a coffee and a desert. Just to soak up the ambience and give the staff something to do🙂The idea is only have a meal if we are hungry and we are up with the budget.
Well it was well worth the effort.
a fantastic location and lovely owners and friendly staff beautiful food .
I had a grilled Cod and Kathie enjoyed some steak.
